I always loved watching the sky with binoculars, it has a wild field of view and 3d feel, which you don’t get with telescope when doing eye view. I bought 10×50 binoculars for a 10th of the price the week earlier and was satisfied with it for daylight fast focusing. Nevertheless, for sky observation at night I needed something that provide a deep feeling (difficult to describe).
I opted for the fujinon 10×50 Polaris , and had a chance to test it against moon observation. The sharpness and brightness is the best ever seen to me compare to 4 other brands , in addition, there is absolutely no glare or halo around bright object.
You basically have tremendous contrast. It took me a while to get use to individual eye focusing but once you get it it’s fast enough for nigh sky observation. Later on , I mounted the binoculars on a camera tripod and got first impression that the left eye had major chromatic aberration. The reason wasn’t the binoculars but the angle of my eye to the eyepiece as I was standing on a bumpy spot.
Once both your eyes are aligned with eyepiece correctly the image are stunning. The feel of depth with these binoculars are stunning. With large depth of field , it’s easy to hop from star to star on a constellation to locate celestial objects.
In summary, it’s sharp, contrasted and provide depth. Best binoculars I had for sky observation by far . I recommend a long chair and a tripod/support for long observation as they aren’t light.
